Hello my few followers...I am finally feeling positive enough to write a blog to update my crazy up and downs I have had lately. The down....is gained about 4 pounds! The Up is that I found a new workout class to try out this month to get me out of my rut and meet some new strong ladies.
Part of my weight gain has been my high stress...so I want to eat everything mood. I am going to get out of this, even if it kills me! lol Ok not really, but you know where I am going with this. I have some really good days of trying to eat "clean" meals. When I do this I see loss. When I stop doing it, I gain back and a little more. Yep it works and yep I am the one causing this yoyo problem. I will be starting with a group of Fabulous ladies that keep me motivated on a 28 day challenge of eating clean and doing workouts regularly. I can do the workouts....the eating clean is my problem. I am going to blog each day about my meals to keep me on track starting Monday after Easter. I am going to take my weight and measurements and update on these each week. I am still debating on pics to post or not. I don't want to make anyone ill lol.
I have tried to get back into running slowly but my leg makes me regret it the two to three days later. It is so frustrating. I do not understand it! I am just going to keep doing my other workouts that I started this month at Body By Eva on Thursday nights, another workout class on Tuesday nights at the gym, weights at the gym and finally the elliptical or walking for cardio. I love interval training which is what we do on Thursday's called "Power Hour". OMG this class makes my whole body shakey for the rest of the evening lol. It is tough but feels great when I am done. I also tried the TRX workout with Eva this last Monday and WOW was that different but fun. I hope to do a full class of this starting next month. I need to get my Mojo back and quit slacking off just because I can't run. I am also going to buy a BodyBugg that will help me keep track of my calorie burn. You wear it all day and it tracks your calorie burn by your heart rate, sweat, movement..etc. I have 30 more pounds to loose and I am tired of being a slacker to get it done. Could I accomplish this with out these new things??? Probably. Will these things give me my motivation a boost??? YES!! So I will give them a try and see where it takes me.

Recovery and some new health foods!
So sorry it has been a LONG time since my last blog. I haven't had a lot to update about until now.
My recovery from my stress fracture has been SLOWWWWW but making good progress finally. This is the 6th week of recovery and I took a very short (3 blocks) jog on Sunday night and about 2 miles of walking. I was a bit nervous about this but I really wanted to see where I was at. I truely wanted to run more but I don't want to mess up what I have healed so I held back. It really felt pretty good. My legs were sore the next day a little but no pain. I think this weekend I will try a little run with a lot of walking again.
On the weight loss, just still sitting here. I am trying to get my act together in this. I do really good for a few days and then I slide back, get depressed and cave in to my cravings. I know this will be a life long problem for me and I MUST keep postive and stop letting food control me. I have been following a wonderfully inspiring woman named Carolyn, who I met on Sparkpeople.com Carolyn's latest blog . She has been eating clean and has lost over 100 lbs!!!! She is such a positive woman and very strong. I read her daily blogs and her journey of being the best she can be, to keep me going. I have been trying to eat more "clean" foods eat clean's web page . I also have been following another friend and AWESOME workout instructor at my local gym. Her name is Mandy and here is a link to her blog Mandy's Blog . She has wonderful new ideas on food to try and great inspiration as well. Mandy gave me a name of a health food store that she has shopped at in a town that we both shop at (not where we live....in the small towns). I was going to this town this last Monday and decided to stop in Vita-Villa (in Salina) and see what they had. I was specifically looking for Chia seeds and Quinoa that you can not find in our local stores. WOW I could have spent a LOT of $$$ in this store of things I wanted to try but I kept myself contained the best I could.
Here we have it! Going from left to right...the little bag of what looks black are the Chia seeds. here is an article on what Chia seeds are. In short they are a super food for runners. They absorb liquid and help your carbohydrates to burn for a longer period of time helping you have better endurance. I have read on MANY blogs of ladies I follow and are runners as well use these sprinkled on just about everything. They don't have much taste but will absorb the taste of anything you put them in and will even form a gel in about 30 minutes if you let them sit.
The second item that is white, chopped coconut. I LOVE coconut and wanted to gets some unsweetened to use in different snacks...even smoothies. Speaking of smoothies I have GOT to buy a new blender soon. I so miss having smoothies. It is on the top of my shopping list the next time I get out of town.
The 3rd item in the yellow and blue bag is Quinoa. This is an awesome seed that looks like a grain. It is high in protein, calcium and iron and also has vitamin E and several B vitamins, amino acids, lysine, cystine and methionine-amino acids. This is used like a rice or filler in so many foods such as stews, soups, etc.
4th item is Sea salt which is much better for you than your regular table salt. It is all natural way to season your foods.
5th item I decided to try som herbal teas. This store had SO many different types of tea it was unreal. I decided to go with a sampler back to see if I would like any of them. I am a coffee drinker with cream and sugar, but I am willing to try something new to give me something different to drink other than just plain water. I am going to crack the addiction of Diet Pepsi YET!! So far of the tea I tried the lemon zynger this morning. It was good but not sure I will go running to it everyday. This sampler has chamomile, lemon zynger, wild berry zinger, peppermint, and sleepy time.
6th item is the all natural peanut butter. This has a great taste with much less sugar than your regular peanut butter you buy. I got the already stirred version. I have bought the natural peanut butter before that would need to be stirred each time you wanted to have some and it was just a pain and a mess. I like this with an apple or on some celery as a filling snack.
Last but not least the Larabars . I have seen these on other blogs as well as on the Biggest Looser. I LOVE a good health food granola or bar as a snack too. I bought 4 kinds (yeah only two left now) lol. I have tried the banana bread and the chocolate chip cookie dough so far...YUMMY!! I still have the carrot cake and peanut butter chocolate chip left. I will be buying these little babies more for sure. They are all natural and are around 200 or a little more calories. Great alternative to the cravings of a sweet treat in the afternoon that I get.
I hope to get some recipes for the Quinoa to try in the next few days. I will take some pictures with the recipes to share with you. I am going to try and take more pictures and track what I am eating to share with you and to keep me on track.
What is your favorite snack?? Have you tried something healthy and new lately?
I will be hitting the gym this afternoon for some weight lifting and cardio. Have a great rest of the week!

Update on injury and future plans
Hello my few followers! Sorry I have not updated in a couple weeks. It has been a crazy busy life with work, family and working out. I did get confirmation that I have a stress fracture in the middle of my right shin. I am wearing a walking boot for 6 weeks (only 3 more to go). I am so thankful that it is feeling MUCH better already with the boot. I have still been working out with lifting weights, swimming, elliptical, bike riding, and going to workout class just this last week (with modified moves). I can still not do any jumping or running but I can do about anything else...oh and steps are still a little tendor to the shin.
I have been researching a training schedule for my marathon in the Fall and when I need to start it. I am on the NO running list until the 1st of April. I will be using the month of April to slowly start working my mileage back up. My training program that I have found is 24 weeks and running only 3 times a week, 1 day will be riding bike one day, and some sort of cross training on another with 2 rest days. I have this month and next month to really tighten down the nutrition to loose some pounds. I want to do this for my training coming up AND my 15 year class reunion coming up in a few months. How the heck did 15 years go by already????
Today the family is going shopping out of town and I am ready to buy lots of produce and some yummy new foods to try that you can't buy around here.

still waiting...impatiently!
Sorry it has been so long since my last post. I was waiting to hear back from the Dr. office about my shin, no such luck. I saw my Dr. on Monday and had an x-ray of my shin to see if I had a stress fracture in the middle of my right shin from running too hard. I am very sure it is a stress fracture and not just shin splints. I have been wearing a walking brace on it most of the day since Monday. It does help a lot with the pain when I walk but it is a pain to walk in. Maybe get a call back on Monday...
Until I find out how long I will have to recover for sure, I have been riding the bike, doing the elliptical and weight lifting on my upper body at the gym. Our gym just put in some new equipment this week and the elliptical that I used Thursday night was one of them. It was much different than the regular ellipticals and kind of hard to explain. It has a much higher vertical incline that your legs can go if you want to (kind of like stepping up but gliding) and it has a little lights on it to show what part of the legs it is working depending on the incline you are at...if that makes any sense. I will have to take a picture of it some night to show you. WOW it was a booty and hamstring burner!! Since I can't put pressure on my shins, it was perfect! I also decided to bump up my weights on my upper body weight lifting. The weights that I have been doing for the last few months, was just getting too easy. I bumped up each machine setting by 5 lbs...felt good! It was challenging no doubt, but I didn't feel like it was too much.
85 lbs at 2 sets of 10 on Lat pulldown
30 lbs at 2 sets of 10 on shoulder press (this is my biggest challenge, have a shoulder that is weak!!)
55 lbs at 2 sets of 10 on chest press
80 lbs at 2 sets of 15 on back extension
65 lbs at 2 sets of 15 on ab crunch machine
55 lbs at 2 sets of 10 on the machine that I can't ever remember the name but it is an upper body pulling the bar towards your chest in 2 different ways.
When I get to do Leg press again I am up to 155 lbs at 12 reps and do 2 sets. When I started this over a year ago I could barely do 70 lbs at 8 reps!! HUGE improvement on my leg strength.
I do free weights when the area is not too busy with the young guys. This last Thursday only one kid was over there but he was annoying with his grunting and hollering. Seriously?!?!?!
Today my legs, hips and low back are feeling the affects of walking around a lot yesterday and today with my walking boot on and then the workout. I don't wear the boot on the equipment because of the difference it gives in the height of my legs. The boot has a rocker bottom and makes my right leg about an inch higher than my left in a regular shoe...as you can imagine that does crazy things! I can walk at a pretty good pace in it except when going up or down stairs or curb. When you can't flex your foot up and down or bend your ankle it is not easy to do either one! Oh and driving is interesting too since it is my right leg. I don't even wear it when it comes to driving on the highway back and forth to work. I see a lot of deer and I know my reflex is going to be using my right leg to hit the brakes, if I did that with my boot on I would hit the gas and the brake at the same time! When I am just going a few blocks around town I use my left foot. Today is going to be a rest day from workout. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical last night at a cardio burning speed and intensity along with the weights shown above. I am going to do some yoga stretching and then ice my shin before bed.
I am so thankful I got into the Chiropractor this afternoon!! My stress level has been high and my body was all out of whack. I am sore but feels good to get the pressure released in my back and neck. Thanks for reading and wish me luck on a quick recovery. I need to be patient (very difficult for me) and let things heal right so I can get back to running and training this summer. I will keep you updated on my progress.

The joy and pain of running.
Today I went to the Dr. for some other health problems and decided to mention the sheer pain I keep having on my right shin from running. I took off an entire month from running hoping to heal it. I decided to go out and try it again this week and the pain was still there! I went to the chiropractor a couple of weeks ago and he did some deep tissue message on it, thinking it was scare tissue build up. It didn't make a huge difference so here we are. The Dr. had me get it X-rayed today and won't get the results until maybe Thursday but she went ahead a prescribed a walking boot to wear to help heal it quicker if it is only shin splints...if it is a stress fracture I would be wearing the same thing, just for a longer period of time. The X-Ray tech couldn't tell me anything but I could tell with the questions she was asking me after looking at it that she saw something suspicious. I went to the drug store and got fitted for the boot. The good thing is that I can take this off and on, unlike a cast!!! I will keep working out but I will not be doing any walking or running or anything that hurts really. I will be "one" with the bike, swimming and other strength workouts until then. If it is going to happen, I am glad it is now. I will work hard to let it rest and heal so I can get back out to doing what I want to do...RUNNING!!! If I want to be able to run a marathon, I will have to do this now and not push the healing process.
My "Wii Fit" review so far is that I liked the different variety of workouts. I really need to work on the balance stuff. I could feel that I did a workout even after only 30 minutes of doing different games. I was suprised that the pre-set workouts were only for about 8-10 minutes. I am going to explore making my own workout for a straight 30 minutes so I don't have to keep starting things over. It is a good thing I will have this for something new to do, my usual group classes I do at the wellness center will have to be put on hold since most of it is jumping or stepping up and down which is painful.
The good news for today is that my scale at home was kind to me and I had a 2 lb loss! I am very excited about it and I will keep it up. Now I am off to figure out what workout I will do tonight on my own at the gym.

Wii Fit review and outdoor run..finally!
My weekend has been busy! I was off Friday and spent it with Troy and kids doing our usual running around town errands, house cleaning, laundry...yeah yawn!! Troy decided that Friday would be a good night to go out to dinner together for Valentines. Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law, Glenna...that is what we did.
When we returned we got the kids to bed and broke out the new Wii to give it a whirl. We bowled and then played golf. I am not a natural at anything athletic, unlike my husband. I whipped him on the first game of bowling and golf...he returned by beating me back of course.
Saturday was nothing too exciting. Usual weekend day and I used it as a "rest day" from working out. I was feeling the soreness good from weight lifting Thursday at the gym and then adding on the 2 hours of Wii Friday, it was time.
Sunday (today) I took the kids to Sunday school and church. I was counting on my 2 yr old son to take a good long nap so that I could try the Wii Fit part. I got as far as setting up my account and then I gave up on thinking he was going to fall asleep. UGH!! The Wii Fit and I are not good friends right now, it depressed me even more than I already am about my body. I am short and I am aware that I need to weigh less than I do now. When it gave me my "Wii age" by my body composition, weight, and balance abilities...I was really depressed lol. It gave me an age of "42" and "overweight" and my BMI was 29...it needs to be 25 to be "healthy". It said my optimal weight is 116!!!!! OMG no way will that happen. Ok It could, but unlikely. If this is the case I have another 39 lbs to loose. Now do you see why I don't like it? Ok I do but I don't. I didn't get to do a workout yet, but I will tonight once I get the kids to bed.
I finally got to take a run outside today. Oh it was beautiful out. 65 degrees, sunny, soggy and wet from all of the snow melting. I walk/ran 3.25 miles. I have not been out running on the streets for almost 2 months. I am trying to get my mileage and stamina built back up for some 5K races this spring. I need to build my "base" running fitness back up for my long distance training. 3 miles would be the shortest of the short runs during training...I barely made it today. I know I will be sore but if I wasn't then there is a problem!!
My food the last two days have been 75% good. I had 1 meal on each day that I am not proud of. I was in calorie range yesterday. Friday night dinner and today's lunch was a good push out of range. I will be able to get back on track tomorrow.
My breakfast the last two days was very filling and large yet under 400 calories. I had 2 pieces of turkey bacon, 1/4 cup of southwest egg whites, and 2 pieces of whole grain sara lee low calorie toast with a cup of skim milk. Gavin (my 2 yr old) loved it!! He likes anything I am eating but I really didn't think he would like the toast. I was wrong!! He didn't like the eggs...too spicy.
Monday is Valentines day and I hope everyone has a great one! I will be spending it in Salina with Gavin for his Ear Nose and Throat appointment. I hope to get another run in tomorrow and more Wii. I will give you my review tomorrow when I get time of the Wii Fit workouts.

Starting over...again
The start of 2011 has been a rough one for me. We have had a TON of sickness in our house with the kids and us. My fitness and nutrition has suffered greatly.
This last week I started tracking my food again and getting workouts in like I should be. I started a fitness challenge at the first of the year at my local gym. I have two other ladies on my team to see how much weight we can loose in 10 weeks as a group. The three of us do not have a lot of weight to loose, compared to what I had a year ago...but it helps keep motivation going. So far I am only down a few pounds. I hope to really get more by the end of our journey. I want to be at my goal weight before the summer. Starting in June I will be starting the 18 week marathon training program for a Full Marathon in October. Last October I had planned to run a full marathon in Kansas City for my birthday. Life happened and I had to stop training and focus on family issues.
Marathon Training is extremely time consuming...we are talking over 600 miles in 18 weeks. When you are not a fast runner, it REALLY takes a lot of time! My one and only goal is to reach the finish line. I finished my first half marathon last fall in Lincoln NE with my friend Ashley. I made it at the time I wanted to and was on a "high" for a week. I received my first finishers medal and carried that hunk of metal around for a week in my pocket. :)
I hope that this starting over of tracking my foods again and trying some new workouts will get me loosing a 2 lb a week average again. I have lost 50 lbs since October 2009...I have only 23 more to go. We bought a Wii recently and I am going to do my Wii Fit program when I can't get out of the house and get back to running now that the weather is looking better this week.
I hope to try some new recipes that I read on my other friends blog sites and as I do I will share them with you. Thanks for reading my first Blog on here!
